NanoSteel Honored as GoingGreen Silicon Valley Global 200 Winner
Recognition acknowledges the benefits NanoSteel’s new class of sheet steel will bring to automotive light-weighting and improved fuel economy
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (Tuesday, November 27, 2012) - The NanoSteel® Company, a leader in nanostructured steel materials design, has been named a 2012 GoingGreen Silicon Valley Global 200 winner in the Green Materials and Green Buildings category. NanoSteel’s selection, its second in four years, recognizes the company’s leadership in game-changing technologies positioned to significantly improve efficiencies across multiple industries.
In June, NanoSteel announced the breakthrough development of a new class of nano-structured advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) with exceptional combinations of strength and ductility for automotive structural parts. NanoSteel’s new AHSS will give automakers the ability to use thinner gauges of stronger steel to reduce vehicle weight. This weight reduction in turn improves fuel economy without compromising safety. NanoSteel’s discoveries offer automakers another reason to Stick With Steel™, one of the most cost efficient, reusable and recyclable materials in the world.
New U.S. Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) regulations require improved fuel efficiency in future automobile designs. These standards progressively increase the average miles per gallon (MPG) required across all light vehicle models from the current 29.7 MPG for model year 2013 to 48.7 in 2025.
“This recognition is an honor and acknowledges the light-weighting opportunities that our new class of nano-structured advanced high strength steel will provide to the automotive industry,” said David Paratore, president and CEO.
NanoSteel was among emerging private greentech companies nominated by investors, bankers, journalists and industry insiders. A panel of industry experts and the AlwaysOn Network editorial team selected winners based on five criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value and media buzz.
NanoSteel will be honored today by AlwaysOn Network at the seventh annual GoingGreen Silicon Valley 2012 event at the Golden Gate Club in San Francisco.
